To upgrade a Windows 10 Education device to Windows 11 Education, first check your device for eligibility. To do so, open the Start menu and search for your PC’s name:
Open this settings menu and ensure that your device is eligible for upgrade. Your current operating system will be available in the “Windows Specifications” tab beneath your device specifications. Only Windows 10 Education is eligible for the quick upgrade process in this guide. If your machine is using Windows 10 LTSC, Windows 10 LTSB, or any other operating system, please reach out to the IT department with your availability to schedule a reimage & upgrade. This process takes about 45-90 minutes, with a follow up after the reimage has completed.
After you’ve confirmed the eligibility of your system, reopen the Start menu and search for the Software Center:
Open this and navigate to the Operating Systems tab:
If your machine is eligible for an upgrade, you’ll see Windows 11 available here for installation. Click install to begin the process. This should take about 45-90 minutes to complete, and it may restart several times during the process. Please report any errors to ITsupport@sau.edu, including your availability for a member of our team to provide assistance.
Once finished, you’ll be able to log in as normal to your new machine!
Microsoft has a page with information about Windows 11 available here: Getting started with your new Windows PC, but don't hesitate to reach out to the IT team at ITsupport@sau.edu with any questions.
