Option 2: Using Run
Hold the Windows Button and press the R key
Fill out the field with
mstsc.exe
It should look like the image below:
Press OK and Remote Desktop Connection should open
After following Option 1 or Option 2 you should see this window pop up
Connecting to the Office PC
In the blank field next to Computer, put your computer name.
From here, you can click connect and it will pop-up a login Window.
- Your username should be Ambrose\your username (this will be your initials + id number)
- Be sure you use the backslash ( \) (one above enter key) and not forward slash ( /)
- Password will be the same password you use to login to the Global Protect VPN and your office machine when you come into work.
The rest of this document will go through various “customizations” you can do to optimize your experience using VPN and Remote Desktop Connection

Troubleshooting
If you are experiencing issues after going through the instructions, try some of these items to see if it fixes your issues:
- Verify you are using the correct slash in the username. It should be ambrose\username and not ambrose/username
- Disconnect and reconnect Global Protect
- Make sure The Computer Name field is properly filled out
- Try using your computer's IP address as the Computer Name instead of your actual computer name
- Try using *computername*.ambrose.sau.edu as the computer name (use your own computer’s name as the *computername* without any asterisks)
