Finding the Computer Name or Serial Number

Please follow one of the below to verify your computer name on Windows Desktops, Apple Products, and Surface Pros within the computer.

Windows Desktop

     - Using the search option

        o Click on the magnifying glass in the taskbar next to the Windows icon

        o Type the following in the search bar: PC name

                   

       o Click on View your PC name

       o The name of your PC could be listed as either PC name, Device Name or Computer Name

For SAU assets this is usually found in as four characters with a dash and then 7 or more characters (e.g. FSMC-0123456, FSHS-0123456, FS54-0123456...)

    - Using the keyboard shortcut keys

      o Press and hold the Windows key

      o Press the Pause Break Key

         Some keyboards require you to hold the Function Key (FN) and then press the key with it labeled

  - A window should appear with the PC or computer name listed       

   - Type administrator instead of your user name when signing in to the computer

      o Select Other User in the bottom left of the Windows sign-in screen

          

      o Type: administrator as the user and the PC name will show below the password as Sign in to:

           

 

For Apple Products

    - iMac or MacBook

           o Choose the Apple menu and then click About This Mac

   - iPad

         o Open Settings.

                 1. Scroll down to and tap on General

                    2. Tap on About

                    3. The serial number will be there (and IMEI if you have an iPad cellular model).

For Surface Pro

      - Select Start > Settings > System > About

      - On this page, find Windows Specifications, and look for your Serial number.
